SYLLOGISM INDIE THEATER DEBUT AT HENRY ART GALLERY
Seattle, WA - April 7, 2010 - The theater-of-the-absurd one-act dramedy Syllogism, written and directed by emerging playwright La-Tonia Denise Willis, is a contemporary deconstruction of the lives of three lost souls compelled to perpetually revisit the tragic situations and circumstances surrounding their institutionalization. Syllogism marks its Seattle debut at the Henry Art Gallery (on the University of Washington campus) on June 24, 2010, from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. The play was selected under the auspices of the Gallery's "Open Floor" multimedia "laboratory of ideas" program. CAST INCLUDES: Alecha Newbern, Meghan Ryan Chandler, Joshua Richardson, and Laurell Haapanen.
"Anything that's untidy and unsanitary gives me hives", boasts one of the characters from Syllogism. With that in mind, you are thrust into a Pirandello-like topsy-turvy world that centers on the ephemeral nature of reality, and the anguish of the specters that inhabit it. ARLENE is the anal-retentive executive of the den -- irascible and given to strike at a moment's notice. LEONARDO is a delicate man-child who is hopelessly in love, and desperately in need of courage. An affable teenager, JESSICA carries an overwhelming burden that continues to haunt her. Through desperation and despondency, they gather each day for associative banter that belies a much deeper psychosis. And trying to make sense of it all is the group's caretaker DR. MASON, who attempts to provide a prescription of logic with questionable results.
Syllogism was workshopped off-Broadway at the Theatre-Studio Inc., New York City, 2004. Subsequent productions include a European performance on the Slovenian amateur theater festival circuit by the cultural arts organization KUD Zarja in Celje, Slovenia (2009) and a reading by Seattle Cold Readers (January 2010).
The performance of Syllogism is FREE and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $5.00 at the door. Please RSVP emergentcommunications@digitalbuzz.com(include name, email address where you want to receive confirmation, and number of tickets/seats reserved). The Henry Art Gallery is located at 15th Ave NE & 41st St. on the University of Washington campus in Seattle. Please be advised Syllogism is RECOMMENDED FOR MATURE AUDIENCES due to strong language, adult content, and mild sexual situations.
Syllogism Productions is the small-scale touring production wing of the play. The concept is to present the play in theaters, media spaces, and edifices of all sorts on a rolling basis with varying casts. The arts company is dedicated to the belief that creativity generates its own rewards. Syllogism Productions has applied for non-profit status in the state of Washington. The current production is actively seeking volunteers to assist in key crew positions. Our Mission
Syllogism Productions
is the touring theater wing for the play Syllogism. The concept is to present the play in
theaters, arenas, parks, and edifices of all sorts on a rolling basis. We
believe that theater is not relegated to conventional modes of
production, but rather is a never ending creation drawing upon multiple
performances. We hope that each production of Syllogism brings with it a new way of looking at the text.
